Shalfleet Village Fete 20182018Fete.BooksFete overview from TowerTower tours1

Thank you to everyone who gave their time, energy and support of the Shalfleet Village Fete.

The day brought 633 visitors and around 100 children, both new record numbers and we were really pleased with the event.  It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves. It was good too to have some local businesses and Isle of Wight charities with us to promote their work and share in the fundraising.

We were pleased to welcome Bob Bromley and his local honey, Helena Hewson and her homemade crafts, J.J.’s Bouncy Castles, Plaza Ice Creams, Rob Carr’s marquees, Graham Hardy’s IW Woodland Products. Special thank you to Lin, Gordon, and Andy for their help with the collection of donated items. Our friends at Newtown Church benefitted from all the unsold paperback books. The Newport charity, Friends of the Animals raised £322 from their stand and the fun dog show, which was a magnificent draw. The IW charity Ability Dogs for Young People raised £141 from their stand, and they kindly cleared all our unsold items to sell in their shops and raise more money for their cause.

We have finished counting the money. We took the magnificent sum of £4153 and after expenses the profit was £2958. This year we invested in purchasing 5 new commercial quality Gazebos for use at the Fete and other functions at the Hall.

We have decided to donate £150 to the Village News and the remaining profit will be divided between the Village Hall and St.Michael’s Church. Next year we also plan to continue replacing more of our tired trestle tables.

There will be a celebratory get together for all volunteers at the Hall on Saturday 8th December, a light lunch will be provided.

First planning meeting is scheduled for 11.00am on Thursday 10th January. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.

Next Fete is Bank Holiday Monday 26th August 2019.

We hope that you will join us again in 2019.
